Welcome to Davis County, Utah
Home of the Great Salt Lake
Davis County is the home of the Great Salt Lake, with its beautiful beaches, buffalo, and birds. We are the smallest county in the state of Utah, but Davis County is the perfect location to enjoy the rest of northern Utah. Salt Lake City attractions, including historic Temple Square, are just ten minutes to the south. Only an hour north is Promontory National Historic Site where the famous joining of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railways occurred on May 10, 1869 with the ceremonial placement of the Golden Spike. Our nearby neighbors include two 2002 Olympic Venue sites: The Ice Sheet, home of the Curling events and Snowbasin, home of the Men’s and Women’s Downhill races. The other major northern Utah ski resorts are only thirty to sixty minutes away from Davis County.
Davis County Legacy Center hosted the 2002 Olympic Command Performance Rodeo between Canada and the United States. The western rodeo action was fantastic and enjoyed by visitors from all over the world. And to top a perfect event, the United States was victorious. The FairPark is also the site of the annual Davis County Fair, held the third week in August. The fair is free and celebrates our western and rural culture.
Even though we are close to a large metropolitan area, Davis County is a great place to view wildlife. According to the November 2002 Sunset magazine, Antelope Island State Park (in Davis County) is one of the top five wildlife areas in the Rocky Mountain region. Nearby Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge was listed as one of the ‘Fantastic Five’ birding destinations. Audubon Magazine lists Great Salt Lake among their top 17 birding trails. Bird Watcher’s Digest designates Great Salt Lake as one of twenty-five must-see birding hot spots in the United States. Great Salt Lake Bird Festival, held the third Saturday in May, spotlights the millions of birds who migrate through or call the Lake home.
After a day of skiing, viewing wildlife, or hiking the mountains, Davis County offers visitors plenty of restaurants and evening cultural entertainment—outdoor theaters, indoor theaters, live actors, actors on film, music, and, of course, shopping!
It’s all here in Davis County
