Outdoors

Any Utah native will tell you if you don’t experience Utah’s incredible outdoor attractions, you haven’t experienced Utah. Check out Davis County’s many outdoor venues for incredible views, amazing wildlife.

Antelope Island State Park

  • The largest island in the Great Salt Lake is accessed by a 7-mile causeway.
  • In summer, over 700 bison (American buffalo) forage across the island and are most often easily seen from the road
  • Pronghorn (which the pioneers called antelope), chukars, rabbits, coyote and dozens of species of birds abound.

Lagoon Amusement Park & Pioneer Village

  • One of Davis County's premiere destination attractions, this large theme park features rides, water park, an actual pioneer town and entertainment.

Birding & Wildlife Viewing

Antelope Island State Park

  • The largest island in the Great Salt Lake is accessed by a 7-mile causeway. See many birds on the causeway in the shallow shoals.

Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area

  • Excellent bird watching and fall waterfowl hunting – over 200 species have been documented.
  • Stop at the Visitor Center (look for the large ping-pong-ball like antennae) and drive out to the dikes, then walk or bike for excellent bird watching opportunities.

Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve

  • Keep your feet dry yet still experience and learn about the Great Salt Lake wetlands.

Wild Bird Center

  • Your one stop shop for all your bird needs.  Get your questions answered by the experts. Free Nature/Bird Walks and related outdoor activities can be reviewed at www.wildbird.com/layton.
  • On the west end of the parking lot near Layton's Target. (Faces Barnes & Noble and Toys R Us)

Bear River Refuge (north of Ogden)

  • Vast Bird Refuge spanning the northeast end of the Great Salt Lake.

Tracy Aviary (Salt Lake City)

  • See hundreds of species of birds and fowl.

Hogle Zoo (Salt Lake City)

  • Utah's largest zoo featuring hundreds of species including lions, tigers, bears, gorillas and giraffes.

Water Fun

Antelope Island State Park

Lagoon-A-Beach at Lagoon Amusement Park

  • A large water park featuring water slides, river runs, and other water fun inside Lagoon Amusement Park.

Cherry Hills Resort

  • Water slides, Olympic-sized swim pool and lazy river make Cherry Hill a great family summer destination.

Clearfield Aquatic Center

  • Public exercise facilities, themed parties, year-round public swimming, birthday parties, family reunions, meeting functions, drop-in child care.
  • The South Davis Recreation District promotes a safe, clean, and well-maintained facility that promotes health, education and recreation. They offer year-round swimming, ice skating, court sports and much more.

Swimming Pools

  • Play year-round in Layton's Surf ‘n Swim wave pool near their city hall and Layton High School
  • Visit Farmington's public pool near their city hall to cool off in summer.

Pineview Reservoir (east of Davis Co, near Huntsville)

  • Mountain reservoir with beautiful scenery, fishing, water skiing, and large beaches.

Willard Bay State Park (north of Ogden)

  • Large fresh-water reservoir adjacent to the Great Salt Lake - known for having warm water in summer months.

Winter Fun

The parking lots of our Layton hotels are only 20 minutes from the parking lot at Snowbasin, and about 45 mins to Powder Mountain. Most hotels in Davis County are within an hour of Utah's 10 best ski resorts.

  • Owned by Utah State University, the center is an emerging public garden with resource conservation as its primary focus.
