Media ToursThe Davis Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is always ready and willing to share the unique beauty of our home with members of the media. Generally, the DACVB is a partner with the Utah Office of Tourism in conducting familiarization tours with visiting members of the media - but you're always welcome to contact us directly.
Antelope Island State ParkPerhaps the most interesting feature of the county is Antelope Island State Park. The island is the largest in the Great Salt Lake, and the most visited park in the Utah State Park System. Activities include saltwater bathing, bird watching, camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, sunbathing, exploring historical sites, photography and viewing wildlife in its natural habitat. The island has an unique range of wildlife, and it’s most famous for its large bison population (of nearly 600 head, which are carefully monitored by state biologists). Dozens of natural artesian springs support the large wildlife population. Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake also attract millions of migrating and nesting birds, making the island one of the best places for bird watching in the USA. Visitors can reach the island via a 7.5 mile causeway.
PopulationThere are approximately 2 million people who live along the western slope of the Rocky Mountains (which we call the Wasatch Front) - in a population corridor which includes Davis County and extends 60 miles north of us, and 100 miles to the south through Utah county. Davis County is the smallest county in the state in terms of geography, but the third largest in population with about 310,000 of those people. Family Entertainment & Amusement ParksTwo amusement parks are extremely busy during the summer months, and on weekends in the shoulder seasons. Lagoon and Cherry Hill both attract a specific set of demographics. Lagoon has a fascinating history, from its beginnings as a lakeside resort. It still has an carousel that was built in 1893, and boasts a wooden framed roller coaster that was built in 1921 by the same designer who built the one in Coney Island. Since then, there have been dozens of alterations and additions including some of the more modern roller coasters in the country. There's also a full water park with slides, rivers, pools and lounging area. It is one of the more popular amusement park destinations in the intermountain west. There is also a large RV park on the property for visitors. On a smaller scale, but everybit as historical and popular with its followers is Cherry Hill. The park caters to day visitors, but also has a popular RV park. Miniature golf, a themed-water park, batting cages and other family-themed attractions. The area also has a long history, and gets its name from the cherry orchards that used to cover the area. Please feel free to contact the Utah Office of Tourism for a state wide FAM tour, or call us for more information about Davis County.
